News Update: Safeguarding NDIS Funds and Participants

With the Australian Government’s recent $110.4 million investment in the Crack Down on Fraud program, the future of the NDIS looks brighter than ever.

This funding boost follows an earlier $83.9 million investment, both aimed at strengthening the National Disability Insurance Agency’s (NDIA) ability to prevent and detect fraudulent activities. The enhancements not only protect participants but also ensure providers uphold the highest standards of integrity.

Strengthening the System for a Safer Future

The Crack Down on Fraud program has revolutionized fraud prevention in the NDIS by improving systems and processes across the board. Here are some key milestones achieved since its launch:

Enhanced identity verification processes, providing a secure and seamless experience for participants and their nominees.​

Improved claim integrity systems, identifying over 2,100 providers with problematic claiming behaviors.

Prevention of over $400 million from being misappropriated by unscrupulous providers.

Over $200 million in savings returned to the Scheme, ensuring funds go where they’re needed most.

These advancements were made possible by close collaboration between the NDIA, the NDIS Commission, and the Australian Federal Police (AFP), with search warrants executed across multiple residential and commercial premises.

Minister for the NDIS, the Hon. Bill Shorten MP, emphasized the Government’s unwavering commitment to protecting the Scheme:

“This program is progressively delivering system upgrades that make it easier for participants and providers to get it right and harder to get it wrong. We are investing to safeguard the Scheme for generations to come.”

The additional investment will enable further system enhancements throughout 2025, creating a robust framework to ensure every dollar allocated to the NDIS is spent wisely.
